A blacksmith called Augustine Fruehauf designed and built the first ever semi-trailer for a Model T Ford for a friend who ran a sawmill.

The Polish trailer company, Wielton, purchased a 65% share of Fruehauf France, completing the purchase in 2017. In 2020, a crane truck manufacturer in the UK, MV Commercial, purchased Fruehauf from administration.
